The concept of the Little Sister began with the puzzling question of how the early delta bluesmen were able to fascinate a listener with only one guitar and their simple, yet soulful vocal lines. Understanding that these players' fat and throaty guitar tones often came from playing small-body parlor guitars, we decided to uncover the secret of these instruments and embark on a journey back to the Crossroads.
While obsessively collecting all sorts of original guitars from the 1920s and ‘30s, many of which were in poor condition and needed complete restoration, we began to create the special design that would best serve the guitar sound we had become hooked on. We wanted to create an instrument that would be versatile enough for players who use a pick, and for players who are finger-stylists. It needed to be superior in terms of playability, and it had to be gimmick-free. We imagined lightweight, comfortable, and unique. Ultimately, we decided that it should be a small-bodied parlor guitar because these were the instruments that we kept going back to again and again.
The Little Sister finally came to life - Featuring a carved chambered body in genuine mahogany, vintage slotted headstock, Indian rosewood fingerboard, unique soft V neck, original designed hardware and body shape, and the in-house hand wound pickups makes for an instrument that is original and innovative, yet feels very familiar in the avid player’s hands. The Little Sister is available for the first time ever as part of our Standard Build series. Made in Tel-Aviv, Israel according to our unparalleled Private Build standards.
The Soft V neck profile is inspired by a vintage acoustic neck, solid yet comfortable, to retain our trademark «parlor» feel and facilitate the thumb fretting techniques.
Each pickup is wound by hand with AWG42 lacquered enamel copper wire, powered by in-house cast AlNiCo II and AlNiCo V magnets and covered by the handmade brass covers.
Sometimes luck is on our side, like when we found an incredible stash of Cedar of Lebanon, stored just in the surrounding of our workshop. It was like the wood was patiently waiting for us. The Cedar of Lebanon is a sweet, delicate sounding wood, with warm rounded trebles and a special acoustic tonal quality.
We nitpick the old-growth timber for the tops and refine it to a rustic soundboard. When paired with the chambered mahogany body of the Little Sister, the result is a unique blend of sweetness, warmth, and delicacy. The Little Sister, Cedar of Lebanon has the most acoustic-like tonal quality out of all our electric line of products. The cutaway version allows for better stylistic versatility, with open access to the top of the fretboard. At first, the Cedar of Lebanon may appear as the most delicate sounding Little Sister, but add a little dirt, and it is the ultimate blues machine. For a true vintage electric experience, the control layout has a Volume knob for each pickup and a Tone master control. This arrangement allows for infinite shades of blending between the two hand wound P90 pickups so that the player can find his own voice, as well as to ‘solo' each pickup. To top it off, the vintage 50s wiring enables a true and clear tone.
The Cedar of Lebanon looks as unique as it sounds. Treated with a natural aniline dye, and finished with hand-rubbed shellac coating, for the thinnest, lightest and most resonant finish possible. Milled from a solid block of brass, the hardware is unlacquered and pre-aged naturally, for a unique, tasteful patina and an unmistakable vintage feel.
