It's not that often we get a guitar in the shop that makes all the staff gather around in awe.

This is the E2FC acoustic from local Brisbane builder Andre East. It's an auditorium-sized model with a gently fan-fretted neck and an absolutely stunning tone. The top is a striking bear claw Sitka Spruce, married to some of the most amazing Ziricote we've come across. The next thing that will grab your eye is the florentine cutaway, a style not often seen these days as it's trickier and more time-consuming to shape, but it matches the offset bridge and adds a wonderful sense of balance to the fan frets. The bevelled armrest is in the style of Canadian master luthier Grit Laskin, and is so precisely shaped that it looks grown into the guitar.

It's the meticulous attention to detail that gets you when you hold it though. The edgework that is so precise you assume it's drawn on until you look closer and realise it's inlaid. The star fretmarkers that extend to a gorgeous large one on the neck heel, that incredible stripe down the back of the guitar that looks like a vein of pearl.

And then of course the fan fretwork. If you've never played one, you're in for a treat. Fingers fall exactly where they should, and it feels the same as a regular fretboard, until you strum it and realise this is not just visual candy. Multiscales have been described as the difference between an upright piano and a grand piano, where the extra string length of the grand piano’s bass register gives a far tighter and richer bass response and the shorter upper register strings allow for a smoother and more bell like treble tone. This is true for guitars as well as pianos and it is immediately obvious when you pick your first few notes. The effect is very pronounced and the richness in tone leaves you wondering why all guitars are not constructed this way. And if you are a lover of alternate tunings such as DADGAD or Open C, then you're going to love the feel of balance across the strings.

This is genuinely a one-off, handmade guitar of absolute master quality.
